Kai is a business analyst who graduated with a degree in accounting and information systems. He’s pursued a career in financial services and hopes to run his own successful company one day. The work experience he gained while at Leeds was a big influence in helping him decide on his career path.
What is your current profession?
I am a Senior Design Analyst for HBOS (Halifax Bank of Scotland)
Describe your role.
I develop short to long term remuneration strategies within Investment Services to support the growth of the companies' wealth business
Describe your career progression.
Since graduating four years ago, I have been focusing on developing my career within the the financial services as well as pursuing various business opportunities, with the goal of one day running my own successful company. Currently I work for one of the UK's leading banks and specialise in remuneration and bonus strategy for their wealth management division. I am also studying for my Certificate of Financial Advisers in order to broaden my FS knowledge and diversify my skill set for the future.
What did you do whilst studying that helped pave the way into your chosen career?
I took the opportunity to gain valuable work experience every summer during university holidays to get a feel for the differing areas of work I enjoyed. During these periods I worked within finance, marketing, IT and law areas of business which aided me in choosing my career path.
What skills and attributes did you develop as part of your course?
I acquired many technical skills from my course at university, these ranged from databases and programming to business management and financial analysis.
What advice would you have for students studying today?
It seems that every university student tries to apply to get onto the numerous graduate schemes available. However, they are not the be all and end all. Ambition and commitment go a very long way in the real world of business.
