Theories of Power and Conflict

Why ‘Theories of Power and Conflict’?

Learn about how key thinkers have tried to explain how power shapes the world we live in and the relevance and source of conflict through different theoretical approaches.

From political theories of violence to sociological theories of culture, from theorising caste and race to definitions of disability, this sub-theme prompts you to think critically about the terms we use, the assumptions we base our analysis on, and the ways in which the world could be different. Modules range from in-depth explorations of historical thinkers and their legacies today, to those that apply theories to case studies, providing you with the opportunity to see how theory helps us to understand the world around us, and how the reality of the world informs the development of theory.
